My teaching philosophy is that I want my all current and/or future students to feel empowered and excited to learn. I know all too well how “learning” sometimes just feels as if the teacher is just regurgitating information and facts, and memorizing boring stuff feels so daunting. i want to be hands-on with learning as much as possible with lots of media to help students to remember what they’re learning. my favorite ways to learn things have always been interacting directly with objects or worksheets that allow me to read, see, and touch what I’m learning about. I know sometimes that isn’t possible, but as a future teacher and history graduate, physical interaction has always been the best way to remember information, and its fun. music is another passion of mine and would love to help students’ memory with fun songs or musical exercises.

The empowerment aspect also ties into the methods of learning. sitting at a desk, feeling restless, bored, and tired of the subject doesn’t help how one feels about their academic performance. I’ve felt many times that I have not been a smart student myself because I was required to learn in a certain way that didn’t work for me. it’s only in post-secondary education that I’ve learned just how different learning looks for a vast range of people. I want students to feel as if their education is catering to their learning styles and as if they are getting the most out of their education. The space in which my students learn will always be encompassing to any needs as empowerment applies to personal feelings too. acceptance, kindness, empathy, happiness, and positive self-image will be the energy that permeates my student’s learning spaces.
